FF7 Key To Sector 5 How To Obtain The Key

Returning to Midgar later in Final Fantasy VII requires finding a special key item that unlocks the gated entrance to Sector 5. Acquiring this key lets players explore familiar locations to collect powerful end-game rewards. Knowing when and where to dig for it saves plenty of time during late-game sidequests.

Prerequisites for Finding the Key

Players must progress past the events at Mideel late in the game before this key becomes available at Bone Village. Attempting to dig for it earlier in the story will yield basic items instead of the key. It is also helpful to speak with the man standing outside the Midgar gate to confirm the key is lost.

Heading to Bone Village for Excavation

Travel to Bone Village located in the northern continent to start the digging process. Talk to the site director and select the option to search for good treasure. Setting up your excavation workers in the correct spot increases your chances of finding the key quickly.

Exact Digging Location in Bone Village

Place a worker near the upper level near the crashed airplane structure. Specifically, position the dig spot right near the nose of the plane wreckage. Once the explosion detonates, inspect the treasure chest that appears at that exact location to collect the Key to Sector 5.

Unlocking Late Game Rewards in Midgar

With the Key to Sector 5 in hand, travel back to the gates of Midgar and unlock the entrance. Returning to the Sector 5 Slums allows you to revisit Wall Market. Here, you can inspect the vending machine in the Item Shop to claim Tifa's ultimate weapon, the Premium Heart.
